OUR APPROACH

Food insights should come with reasons, not just labels.

We’re developing a structured approach to food information — connecting ingredients, selected research, and clear explanations while making uncertainty visible.

THE KNOWLEDGE FOUNDATION

From research to understandable food insights.

We’re organizing food information into a structured knowledge base, designed to connect ingredients with relevant factors, supporting references, and clear explanations.

01

Gather references

Compile relevant information from food references, books, and research publications.

02

Review the evidence

Evaluate sources, distinguish stronger findings from uncertain claims, and identify limitations.

03

Structure food factors

Organize ingredients by relevant characteristics, preparation methods, and contextual information.

04

Explain with context

Turn structured information into understandable explanations without making absolute predictions.

Proposed knowledge-development workflow, not a claim that every review stage is already complete.

Sample tomato pasta with tomato sauce, grated cheese, and herbs.

KNOWLEDGE-BASE EXAMPLE

Tomato sauce

Food characteristic
Naturally acidic ingredients
What may matter
The finished sauce’s acidity depends on its ingredients and preparation. Food tolerance differs between individuals.
What remains uncertain
Exact pH, ingredient quantities, and individual response cannot be determined from a photograph alone.

Example only. Evidence classification and references require review before publication.

OUR PRINCIPLES

Four principles for useful context.

Evidence before assumptions

We aim to distinguish supported information from claims that need further review.

Clarity over complexity

Food information should be understandable without requiring specialized knowledge.

Uncertainty is part of the answer

When an ingredient or conclusion cannot be confirmed, that limitation should be visible.

People are different

General food information should never be mistaken for a prediction of someone’s individual experience.

RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT

Where we are today.

01

IN DEVELOPMENT

Knowledge structure

Organizing food information and reference materials into a consistent structure.

02

PLANNED

Evidence review

Reviewing ingredient claims, supporting references, and scientific limitations.

03

PLANNED

Prototype validation

Testing whether the proposed explanations are understandable and useful.

MEDICAL BOUNDARIES

Helpful context. Clear boundaries.

GastricLens is designed to make food information easier to explore. It does not diagnose gastritis, prescribe treatment, or determine whether a meal is medically safe for an individual.

According to NIDDK, diet does not play an important role in causing most cases of gastritis or gastropathy, though some exceptions exist. Personal symptoms require appropriate clinical evaluation.

LET’S BUILD RESPONSIBLY

Good ideas get stronger through collaboration.

We’re open to perspectives from researchers, healthcare advisors, and people interested in more accessible food information.
